New York City Is Getting An Underground Park Posted on 17 Jul 16:01
An underground park is officially coming to New York. Set to be located in an 80-year-old trolly stop known as the Delancey Underground in the Lower East Side, the park will be one acre in size and be referred to as The Lowline (a play on the High Line park in Manhattan). According to its official website, the concept is quite simple - "The Lowline is a plan to use innovative solar technology to illuminate an historic trolley terminal on the Lower East Side of New York City. Our vision is a stunning underground park, providing a beautiful respite and a cultural attraction in one of the world’s most dense, exciting urban environments." In the meantime, curious New Yorkers can visit the Lowline Lab, the official testing ground for the world’s first underground park. The Lab is located at 140 Essex Street and is free to the public between 11am - 5pm.
